online degree in mechanical engineering vs regular?

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

is an online degree in mechanincal engineering remotely comparable to a regular degree in mechanical engineering? what level of education do you need before you can start a course? how long would the course take?
would i be missing out on a lot of practical work this way? would that be a concern?

thank you for any answers ~
i cant go to university in person, so please offer suggestions.

An online bachelor’s degree in engineering will not be taken seriously by anyone. A bachelor’s in engineering without lab work is useless.

Do online degrees mean anything?

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

I have been thinking of taking an online master engineering degree online but before I start is it official? like if I was to pass the course etc would I be able to use it as a official qualification?
I want to do an online degree because I am currently looking after my mother who is terminally ill and don’t have time to go to a brick and mortar school

absolutely, as long as the online college you plan to attend is completely legitimate. In fact…there are actual colleges and Universities that offer online degrees. You also may qualify for a scholarship of some sort because you’re taking care of a terminally ill parent. Do some research, call a few local colleges. I’m sure you’re not the only person whose ever faced this question…there has to be an answer that would meet your needs and still be considered Legit. Good luck!

Biomedical Engineering Degree online?

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

I have spent the past two hours online looking for schools who offer this and have gotten nowhere. Does anyone know of an online program that offers a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering?

You will never find it. Too much "hands on" and lab time needed.

Are there any ONLINE universities in which to obtain a Bachelor’s in petroleum engineering/geology?

Friday, January 6th, 2012

I was just curious as to see if there were a way to receive a geology or petroleum engineering degree online? Thanks

A degree in Petroleum Engineering needs ABET accreditation to be taken seriously by employers.

There are no online ABET-accredited degrees in Petroleum Engineering.

Will companies in INDIA consider online engineering degree programmes?

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

I am planning to do M.S biomedical engineering online from some foriegn universities.will companies in india consider this pg degree ?and how far are these universities reliable?will this programme gives the real knowledge of programme as the regular course?

If its from a respected and accredited university that also has a in class program, then it will be just like you attended in person. Online learning is just as good as in class learning for most areas of study.

online engineering degrees?

Friday, August 26th, 2011

I need to know if there is a engineering degree, mechanincal or chemical that i can take completely online?

You won’t find an accredited university offering such thing, at least for a bachelors degree. I know many universities offer online masters degrees in engineering. However, I don’t think that’s your case.

You need to spend so many hours doing lab work to get an engineering B.S., which you can’t do online.

You could try some of the for-profit institutes (Devry, ITT, etc) but you would get an ‘Engineering Technology’ degree, which is basically a technician degree, but with the word engineering in front.

Online Masters in Software Engineering Programs?

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Hi,

I’m considering persuing my Masters in Software Engineering. I’m considering Drexel as they have an online program however it is a different degree than their standard on campus route through the college of engineering.

http://www.drexel.com/online-degrees/degrees.aspx

There are "tracks" such as CIS, and Information TScience. It’s kind of an engineering degree, but not issued through the college of engineering.

Note this is drexel.edu:

Does anyone know other schools that have a masters in software engineering program that is seen identical to the on campus degree? Not being the same as the on campus feels cheap.

Comments/Suggestions?

I know, i should just go on campus and check it out but it’s quite a hop away.

The online Master’s Degree in Software Engineering is designed to address the rapid rise in demand for software engineering by offering online degrees and courses that provide students with the skills employer’s desire and knowledge needed to make an immediate contribution to the workplace. DePaul University in Chicago, Texas Tech University and Walden University in Minneapolis propose online masters program in Software Engineering. Does anyone know of an ABET accredited ONLINE college for industrial engineering?

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

I do not live near a college that offers an associates degree in industrial engineering so online is my only option.

I understand I have access to search engines but finding a college with this criteria has alluded me.

I know there are colleges with DETC accreditation but to continue into higher education, from what I understand, I should get a ABET accredited degree.

DETC accreditation for "Engineering" is worthless.

University of North Dakota offers several ABET-accredited online (95%…) degrees in Engineering, but not Industrial Engineering.

Instead of Industrial Technology, consider Industrial Engineering Technology. University of Southern Mississippi offers a TAC/ABET-accredted BS in Industrial Engineering Technology BSIET) which is ~ 2/3 online.

The other option is to take an ATMAE-accredited online degree in Industrial Technology (BSIT), which is similar to Industrial Technology. There are about half a dozen "mostly online" degrees available. See the list below.

There are no ABET accredited IE programs that are offered 100% online. However, here are the accredited programs that offer at least some of their courses online (along with the proportion of such offerings):
Arizona State 6-10%
Clemson 36-40%
Kansas State 6-10%
Kettering 1-5%
University of Missouri – Columbia 26-30%
Rochester Institute of Tech. 6-10%
Texas A&M – Commerce,TX 1-5%

Also, 2 Industrial Engineering Technology programs offer some of their courses online:
Purdue – Calumet 1-5%
University of Southern Mississippi 61-65%
